Clarion Native Chris Kirkpatrick to Sing National Anthem at Steelers Game Today

| December 30, 2018

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) – PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) – *NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick, a Clarion County native, will sing the national anthem at Heinz Field before the Pittsburgh Steelers regular season finale today against Cincinnati.

Born in Clarion in 1971, Kirkpatrick lived in the area until his family moved to Dalton, Ohio, when he was in 7th grade.

He attended elementary schools in both Clarion and Oil City.

Kirkpatrick still holds strong ties to the area.

Over the years, Kirkpatrick returned on several occasions to visit family.

In 2013, Clarion’s Rev. Jake Jacobson took center stage as the minister at Kirkpatrick’s wedding in Orlando, Florida. Jacobson first met Kirkpatrick as a 12-year-old boy when he was visiting his grandparents, Art and Frances Kirkpatrick, who were members of his Grace Lutheran Church.

Kirkpatrick’s band *NSYNC headlined a sold-out Heinz Field in 2001, in what was the stadium’s first-ever event.

*NSYNC, a wildly popular boy band that formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995, consisted of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass.

The band has sold over 28.8 million albums and 562 million on-demand song streams.

Sunday’s Steelers matchup vs. the Bengals represents the team’s “Thank You Fans” game.

Pittsburgh native Chip Esten, an actor from the TV show “Nashville,” will lead the Terrible Towel wave prior to the game.

Pittsburgh rap star Wiz Khalifa was previously scheduled to lead the Terrible Towel wave; however, he canceled for personal reasons.

Every fan in attendance will win a prize. Prizes include a pair of tickets to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta and autographed Steelers merchandise.

A lot is on the line for the Steelers. To clinch a playoff birth, they must win the game and hope for a Cleveland victory over Baltimore or an Indianapolis-Tennessee tie.

Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. and all gates will open at 2:30 p.m.
