Clarion U. Football Hits the Road Saturday vs. Edinboro

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – The Clarion University football team, still in search of its first win, hits the road Saturday to take on Edinboro at 4:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.

Game Notes

The Golden Eagles (0-4 overall, 0-1 PSAC West) are coming off perhaps their strongest game of the year in a 21-18 loss to Mercyhurst.

Edinboro (2-2, 0-1) is coming off a 38-7 loss to IUP.

This is Clarion’s first road game since dropping its season opener at Tennessee Martin Aug. 31, and it’s the 88th meeting between the schools with Edinboro leading the series 45-40-2, including a victory last year.

Clarion quarterback Asiantti Woulard is coming off perhaps his best game in a Golden Eagles uniform. He ran for a touchdown, threw for a score and caught a two-point conversion in the loss to Mercyhurst.

In the contest, he ran a season-high 12 times for nine yards and the touchdown – although he ran for 50 yards on six carries and lost a bunch of yards because of some sacks – while also going 13 of 30 passing for 195 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Wide receiver Greg Leonard, who ranks third in PSAC at 22.8 yards per reception average, had two catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

The game vs. Mercyhurst was a breakout day for freshman running back Mylique McGriff, who ran for 66 yards on 13 carries, helping Clarion to a season-best 141 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Clarion is led by linebacker Layne Skundrich, who ranks fourth in the PSAC of 10.3 tackles per game.

Edinboro is led by Ta’Nauz Gregory is averaging 144.8 all-purpose yards per game and is a dangerous weapon receiving the football as well as in the return game. Jake Sisson is averaging 253.8 passing yards per game but has 12 interceptions compared to nine touchdowns. Defensively the Fighting Scots are averaging 7.8 tackles for loss and has forced nine interceptions, including five by Zuril Hendrick.

After Edinboro, Clarion returns home to face Seton Hill in the Homecoming Game, which is set for 2:00 p.m.
