Formal recognition of this year’s Hall of Fame class will take place at the 2019 EWL Championships hosted by George Mason on Saturday, March 9.

Bekzod Abdurakhmonov wrestled two seasons at Clarion (2010-12) after transferring from Colby Community College (Kan.), and in that span established himself as one of the top Golden Eagles in recent memory with a 74-17 overall record. As a senior in 2012, he posted a 36-5 record at 165 pounds, including a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships as well as EWL and PSAC Championships. Abdurakhmonov went 5-1 at the national tournament in St. Louis, losing only to eventual national champion David Taylor in the semifinal round. He went 38-12 the year before, qualifying for the NCAA Championships but falling in the All-America round.

Abdurakhmonov’s success has continued since his departure from Clarion, as well. He earned the chance to represent his home country of Uzbekistan in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, competing at 74kg and defeating reigning gold medalist Jordan Burroughs (USA) before falling in the medal round. Before that, Abdurakhmonov won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games, the bronze at the 2014 World Championships in his hometown of Tashkent, and two consecutive gold medals at the Asian championships

Jack Davis made a strong contribution to the Clarion wrestling program as an athlete, assistant coach and head coach. He wrestled at Clarion from 1971-74 and had a record of 36-30-1, including a 22-14-1 mark and PSAC runner-up placing his senior year. Clarion won three PSAC team titles and had a combined team record of 61-10. Davis became a teacher in the Physical Education Department in Fall of 1975 and became coach Bob Bubb’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 1976-92. He helped the Eagles win eight PSAC and one EWL title, post 19 Division I All-Americans and eight top-20 NCAA Division I Tournament finishes.

As head wrestling coach for five seasons from 1993-97, he led his teams to two EWL and one PSAC title, coached eight Division I All-Americans, including 1996 national champion Sheldon Thomas (118). At the conference level, Davis coached 16 PSAC and 11 EWL champions. The team finished in the top-20 in the NCAA in each of his five seasons as head coach, including a 12th-place finish in 1996.

Clarion announced Tuesday that it is leaving the EWL after this season to join the Mid-American Conference.
