Clarion U. Student Receives PennAce Student of the Year Award

| May 29, 2019

CLARION, Pa. – Recent communication graduate Samuel Devon Farmer is the recipient of this year’s Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Employers JoAnne Day Student of the Year Award for the Liberal Arts award category.

Farmer, a graduate of North Clarion Jr./Sr. High School, received a plaque and a $250 cash award in March after his graduation in December.

In order to receive this award, students must complete an internship or co-op assignment. Farmer completed his internship at the Clarion University Center for Career and Professional Development Center as a media intern. His application was supported by a support statement from his internship supervisor and a university faculty member.

During his internship, he created a series of freshman advice videos along with maintaining the office YouTube channel. He also produced success stories of students at job fairs, short form videos as commercials, and a parody video for the CUMentor program. Even though some of these projects had a short time frame, his work surpassed all expectations. He was always up for a new challenge and was always problem solving according to his internship site supervisor, Erin Lewis, assistant director, Center for Career and Professional Development.

Farmer’s work ethic did not go unnoticed during his internship or coursework. It was no surprise that he received this award because of his dedication to his work, which never failed to go above and beyond the expectations of his assignments.

“Devon has been a major asset to Eagle Media Productions for the last four years. His creativity and enthusiasm have brought a new edge to our productions. These productions act as a service to our local community and Clarion University network as a whole,” said Dr. Lacey Fulton, assistant professor of communication.

PennACE recognizes students for their participation in an internship/co-op with the Student of the Year award in honor of career development professional JoAnne Day. Day was an active member of the educational community with a passion for her craft and an incomparable commitment to her students. She passed away in March 2005 after a two-year battle with cancer.
