CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion track & field team will face off with its conference colleagues for their first championship of the spring semester when they compete at the 2017 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.

Edinboro is hosting the two-day event, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and continues until Sunday’s awards ceremony, scheduled to take place shortly after 3 p.m.

Sixteen student-athletes will represent the Golden Eagles at the championship, with some pulling double-duty between events. Most notable among that group is Jessica Shomo, who topped PSAC qualifying standards both on the track and in the field. Shomo is seeded sixth in the 60m thanks to her program-record mark of 7.86 set at the Edinboro Invitational last weekend. She will also attempt to earn points in the Long Jump, where she is currently seeded 13th in the field.

Joining Shomo in the individual sprint events is freshman Amanda Batey, making her PSAC Championship debut in the 60m, and the veteran pair of Tatiana Cloud (200m, 400m) and Courtney Corban (200m). Those three also figure into the plans in a number of relay events. Corban will lead off the 4x400m Relay, followed by Danielle Tarr and Nicole Young, and Cloud will provide the anchor leg.

Batey is part of the seven-person contingent that could compete in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), joining Tarr, Young, Maria Snyder, Kelsey Murray, Brianna Leidy and Letizia Collini. Most of that group could also take part in the 4x800m Relay, along with junior Rikki Brumbaugh.

Tarr is the lone individual representative in the mid-distance events for Clarion, having qualified just last week for the 800m with a strong showing at the Edinboro Invitational. The long distance events will feature Kayce Bobnar and Danielle Vensel, both slated for the 5000m.

Three Golden Eagles will take part in the throwing events, with program record holder Kari Steuer seeded ninth in the PSAC in the Shot Put. Joining her in the event is Katie Brest, who also qualified for the championships in the Weight Throw. Rounding out the throws group is Summer Murray, who will compete in the Weight Throw.
