Clarion won in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 respectively.
“I think the leadership of Carlie Bieranowski and the leadership from Laura Subject are huge right now and from Morgan Seybold,” said head coach Jennifer Mills after the game. She continued, “[They’ve] seen a lot of time I think that those kids are proving great leadership for the [others].”
The Golden Eagles were led by Subject who had 23 set assists and four digs. Abbey Cox had eight kills and three blocks, while Bieranowski had seven kills and one block.
Seybold led the Golden Eagles with 13 digs and Mattison Thornton chipped in with five.
Mills added, “three [freshmen] are playing a significant amount of time right now and I think they have stepped up. They are improving with each new match and that is what we want to see. We just want them to develop and get more comfortable, that is the biggest thing.”
The three freshmen she is referring to are Gabrielle Olson, Catherine Ferragonio, and Taylor Braunagel. Olson had six kills and two blocks, Braunagel added five kills, and Ferragonio chipped in with four digs.
The Golden Eagles are back in action 7:30 Saturday against Adelphi in Tippin Gym as the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament concludes.
