OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – The Oil City Police Department will be in the area of the Oil City High Senior High and Venango Catholic High School from October 17 through 28, 2016, taking part in the Buckle Up Pennsylvania Teen Driver Mobilization.
Oil City officers will be at the schools providing information to students about seat belt safety and the law, Oil City Police announced Monday in a release.
Daily school announcements will include a broadcasted reminder to students to buckle up at the start and end of each day. Officers will also be utilizing stationary locations and mobile patrols to conduct enforcement activities in the school areas.
“The focus will be on school age drivers under the age of 17, making sure they are wearing their seat belts, as it is a primary vehicle code violation in Pennsylvania,” said Oil City Police Chief Robert Wenner. “Our state law requires anyone under 18 to be pulled over and ticketed if you’re not buckled up.”
Officers will be on the lookout for any and all violations of the traffic law. Any driver, regardless of age, will be issued a traffic citation for the primary vehicle code violation, and any applicable seat belt violations.
“With driving comes with great responsibility. You are not only responsible for yourself, but also making sure passengers in your vehicle are buckled up too,” said Wenner in the release.
“So buckle up, law enforcement will be writing tickets to save lives. Click it or Ticket.”
