Clyde Wood SrClyde Clifton Wood, Sr., 95, a longtime and well-known resident of 163 Wood Street, Polk died peacefully at 4:16 AM Thursday, February 9, 2017 shortly after his arrival in the emergency department of UPMC-Northwest in Seneca.

He was born July 16, 1921 at home in Franklin, a beloved son of the late: Ralph C. and Alda Grace McKinley Wood.

He was a 1938 graduate of Franklin High School.

Mr. Wood proudly served his country during World War II earning rank of Private First Class in the U.S. Army. For service to his country he was awarded the Southern Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze service star, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, The Purple Heart, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his discharge from active duty, Mr. Wood began working at Polk Center. He worked his way up to Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1980. He had also been self-employed alongside his son with Wood & Son Roofing, well into his 80’s. He was a kindhearted man who enjoyed helping others; and being with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.

He was a longtime member of PARSE (Pennsylvania Retired State Employees), the Loyal Order of Moose, the N.R.A. and the A.A.R.P.

He was married December 14, 1940 to the former Edna L. Jones, who preceded him in death on October 19, 1996.

Mr. Wood is survived by a son, Dennis B. “Bill” Wood and his wife JoAnne of Franklin and by three daughters: Judith A. Krizon and her husband Ed of Polk and Linda M. Aylesworth and her special friend, Bob Jackson of Knox and Patricia L. Dolecki also of Franklin; in addition to 11 grandchildren: Lance, Alan (Shawnee) and Clay (Sheri) Wood, Julie (Jeff) Karns, Jody (Dave) Garich, Shannon Aylesworth and special friend Ed, Nicole Aylesworth, Jill (Doug) Vintorini, Amie (Darren) Wessell, Katie (James) Raymer and Andy (Tanya) Wood; and 16 great-grandchildren: Destiny (Aaron) Asche, Quincey Wood, Trevor and Tyler Wood, Rileigh and Addison Wood, Clay and Heather Karns, Scott and Ryan Garich, Kaitlyn Vintorini, Mariah and Morgan Wessell, Brinley and Braelyn Raymer and Landon Wood.

Also surviving is his sister, Evelyn “Idie” Hartle of Franklin and by Mr. Wood’s special friend, Doris Schmitt of Atlantic, PA; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clyde “Cliff” Wood on September 25, 2016 and by six brothers: Ellis, Elmer, Allan, Dalton, George and Evan.

Family and friends may call Saturday 10 AM until 2 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 PM in the funeral home with Reverend Mark Rusnak, AsceraCare Hospice chaplain, officiating.

In honor of his military service, immediately following the funeral service, full military burial rites will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard of Franklin.

Interment will be in Old Sandy Cemetery at Polk.
