FRANKLIN, Pa. (ETY) — An Oil City man is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing a game console from a residence in Franklin.

Court documents indicate that the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 30-year-old Alek Joseph Tarr of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, Ptlm. Wheeling spoke to an individual who wanted to report that his video game console had been stolen.

The victim stated that he had permitted a female acquaintance and her friend, Alek Tarr, to stay at his residence for the day due to the pair being apparently transient.

The victim reported that he stopped in several times during the day, during his breaks, and everything appeared normal, but when he returned home at the end of the day, the pair were gone and his video game console was missing.

Ptlm. Wheeling called around to several area pawn shops but was unable to locate the console.

Then, on Saturday, June 2, a representative from Game Stop, located in the Cranberry Mall, called Ptlm. Wheeling and stated that he had learned more information about the theft Ptlm. Wheeling had previously called about.

The Game Stop representative provided the name Alek Tarr and said that he came to the store and sold them a PS3 matching the description of the one stolen. The representative stated that the store management would provide Ptlm. Wheeling with a full transaction report, which Ptlm. Wheeling received on Monday, June 11.

According to the complaint, the transaction report shows the name Alek Tarr and also provides the name of the Game Stop associate who handled the transaction and can identify Tarr.

Based on the investigation, one count of second-degree misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking was filed on Thursday, June 14, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
