FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman is facing charges after her 6-year-old child was found wandering the area during a wintry evening last month.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 24-year-old Carissa Ilene Deeter, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, March 14, around 8:06 p.m., a six-year-old juvenile male was found walking alone down Meadville Pike near Bell Avenue by an individual passing by. The boy was identified as the child of Carissa I. Deeter.

The child was found to have left a residence on 12th Street and walked approximately 1.4 miles across the City of Franklin in winter weather in the evening hours before starting to walk back again, the complaint indicates.

Carrisa Deeter was unaware of the whereabouts of her son and neglected to check on his well-being. She said she assumed he was sleeping and allegedly admitted a two-hour time gap from when she had last seen him until police notified her of his location, the complaint states.

Based on the investigation, one first-degree misdemeanor count of Endangering the Welfare of Children was filed on Monday, March 19, at Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, with Judge Kirtland presiding.

A certified summons was issued on March 19.
