Franklin Man Faces Charges for Assaulting Juvenile Male

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin man is facing strangulation and related charges after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile male.

According to court documents, the Franklin Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 30-year-old Charles Thomas Hale Jr., of Franklin:

– Strangulation – Blocking the Nose and Mouth of the Person, Felony 2
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 1
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

At 3:51 p.m. on March 15, 2018, a CYS (Childen and Youth Services) report was faxed to the Franklin Police Department regarding Hale’s assaultive behavior toward a juvenile victim. An investigation into the incident revealed that the juvenile victim had been assaulted by Hale at a residence on Pacific Street in Franklin on February 9, 2018. The victim advised that Hale is his mother’s boyfriend and that they live together at the Pacific Street house. The victim’s mother was also a witness to the following incident:

On February 9, the victim was attempting to break up an argument between his mother and Charles Hale at a residence on Pacific Street. The victim stated that he watched the defendant shove his mother, so he stepped in between them, yelling at Hale to not touch his mother, according to the complaint.

The victim said that Hale and his mother turned their separate ways as he walked toward the living room. Then, Hale grabbed him from behind and placed one hand over his mouth and nose. The victim said that he could not get away, and he was unable to breathe due to his mouth and nose being covered, the complaint states.

The victim said that his mother had to pull Hale’s hand off of his face.

Hale was arraigned at 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

He is free on $15,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 21 in front of Judge Fish.
