Franklin Man Charged With Threatening, Assaulting Girlfriend

HandcuffsSUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin man is facing charges of threatening his girlfriend while wielding a rifle during a recent incident in Sugarcreek Borough.

According to court documents, 33-year-old Coty Lane Burkhardt, of Franklin, was arraigned on Tuesday afternoon in front of District Judge Patrick Lowrey on the following charges:

– Terroristic Threats W/ Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 7 with Judge Lowrey presiding.

Burkhardt is free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

According to the criminal complaint, sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, a 21-year-old woman was sleeping when she felt a box of rifle shells hitting her feet.

The victim said she watched Burkhardt load one shell in a 30-30 rifle, and Burkhardt was yelling “I’m done, I’m (expletive) done,” the complaint states.

The victim said he then went after the cat, he threw it out the door, then threw the gun at her, striking her in the ribs and causing pain to her ribs. The victim said they yelled at each other, and he then grabbed her arms, hurting her and leaving marks on her forearms, according to the complaint.

The victim said she went to the MedFast in DuBois for treatment of her ribs.
