OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – New details have emerged in the case of an Oil City woman accused of attacking a man with a large kitchen knife and threatening to injure another person.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 37-year-old Jacquelyn Suzanne Whitling, of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, around 6:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, officers of the Oil City Police Department were dispatched to a report that Jacquelyn Whitling had threatened harm to another female who lives on Front Street in Oil City. The caller reported that Whitling was, at that time, walking to the home of the female she had threatened to harm carrying a large kitchen knife.

According to the complaint, Patrolman Deloe and other officers arrived on Front Street and saw a female matching the description the caller had given of Whitling concealing a large knife. The officers ordered her to drop the knife, and she complied and was apprehended.

Patrolman Deloe then conducted an interview with the caller, who was discovered to also be a victim in the incident.

The male victim reported that Whitling began texting him the evening of Friday, September 14, in a harassing manner, and showed Patrolman Deloe the messages. According to the complaint, at approximately 1:57 a.m., Whitling sent the male victim a text message that she was on her way to “kick her (expletive),” referring to the female victim, and said that her friends will “kill” the female victim.

The male victim said he made contact with Whitling at her home, where she continued to make statements about going to the home of the female victim and “blowing” through the door. The male victim reported that Whitling got multiple kitchen knives from her kitchen and was waving them around in a threatening manner to a degree that made him fear for his life.

According to the complaint, at one point, Whitling grabbed the male victim by the shirt while waving the knife in his face. The male victim reported that he was able to push her off of him and exit the residence. She then attempted to follow him from the residence, so he pulled the door shut and held the handle.

The male victim said that as he held the door handle, Whitling began stabbing at the glass window, chipping chunks of glass out of it, and when Whitling retreated into the residence, the male victim fled the area.

The male victim reported that as he was pulling away in his vehicle, Whitling, who was then outside, threw something at his car and said she was going to go to the female victim’s home. He then saw Whitling leaving her home with the large kitchen knife in her hand, according to the complaint.

At that time, the male victim, fearing not only for his own safety but also for the safety of the female victim, contacted the police, the complaint states.

When the officers made contact with Whitling, she was discovered in close proximity to the female victim’s home, walking in the direction of the home.

The complaint also indicates that the male victim provided Patrolman Deloe with messages in which Whitling became upset and talked about cutting herself with a razor blade, as well as messages with images of various stages of harm she caused to herself.

Whitling was arraigned at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Assault, Felony 1
  • Criminal Attempt – Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
  • Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
  • Possession Instrument Of Crime, Misdemeanor 1
  • Possession Of Weapon, Misdemeanor 1
  • Stalking – Repeatedly Communicate To Cause Fear, Misdemeanor 1

She remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

Court documents indicate she was denied bail as a “danger to self and others.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, with Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland presiding.
