FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is facing charges after being found in possession of drug paraphernalia and then falsely identifying himself to police.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 26-year-old Shane Michael Biles, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:17 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, Franklin Police Officers were dispatched to a convenience store/gas station in Franklin for a report of a dog locked in a car. Shane Michael Biles was found in the car with another person. While officers were at the scene, Biles grabbed a black bag out of the vehicle and left the scene.

Around 10:00 a.m., Officer McConnell found Biles in front of an apartment on Dale Avenue in Franklin.

The complaint states that Biles was asked why he was running from the gas station, to which he replied he thought he had a warrant out for his arrest. Officer McConnell asked Biles what was in his bag, and he allegedly responded “paraphernalia,” and when asked what kind of paraphernalia, he said it contained needles and spoons.

After checking Biles for weapons, Officer McConnell asked him where in the bag the paraphernalia was located, and Biles directed him to the main pocket of the bag and said there was also a silver tin in the bag with more paraphernalia, according to the complaint.

Biles was placed under arrest for possession of paraphernalia and asked his name. He provided a false name and his actual birth date. After several checks with no record found under the given name, Officer McConnell asked him to spell his last name, and he spelled out the false last name.

According to the complaint, a name check through NCIC finally resulted in a hit confirmation of Shane Biles for a failure to appear warrant held by the Venango County Sheriff’s Office.

Biles was then asked if he had lied about his name, and he responded that his name is Shane Biles and he just didn’t want to go to jail because he thought he had a warrant out for his arrest.

The following charges were filed on Tuesday, May 29, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office:

– False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor (22 counts)

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, with Judge Kirtland presiding.

A certified summons was issued to Biles on May 29.
