OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Work on Venango County’s new multimodal transportation center is set to begin as soon as Mother Nature cooperates.

According to Jim Carroll, of PennDOT, equipment and materials have been moved in, so work can begin as soon as possible.

“It is dependent on the weather,” Carroll said. “Materials and equipment are there for the work to begin, but the contractors are waiting on winter to be over.”

Drainage pipes and other materials are in the vacant lot between Seneca and Elm Streets, across from where the facility is to be built, which is next to PennDOT’s District 1 office. When work begins, holes will be dug to place drainage pipes.

The two-story building will be constructed at the intersection of Elm and Duncomb Streets.

It will serve as the county’s center for public transportation operations, housing the county transit agency’s administration and maintenance staffs, equipment, and storage.

The plans also call for 16 public parking spaces.

The location, a large parking area for PennDOT employees, is across the street from the former parking garage site.

Terra Works, of Clarion, was hired for general construction work on the multi-modal facility Phase I, and IE Power, of Freeport, was hired for electrical work.

PennDOT will maintain ownership of the property, but the county will own the building.
