Cooperstown Man Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

COOPERSTOWN, Pa. (EYT) — According to sources, on January 15, a Cooperstown man was arrested on sexual assault charges stemming from incidents that occurred between May 1, 2010, and July of 2012.

Scott William Smith, 29, of Cooperstown, allegedly engaged in sexual activities with four boys under the age of 16.

According to court documents, Smith — a former crossing guard for the Oil City School District — was charged with three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years old, one count of aggravated indecent assault with a person under 16, one count of indecent assault without consent of others, and four counts of indecent assault charges of a person under 16.

Records indicate that Smith was arraigned in front of District Judge Andrew Fish, and his bail was set at $100,000.00.

He was unable to post bail and was placed in Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on January 23, 2013.
