| March 27, 2018

PINE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Cooperstown man recently lost $400 to scammer(s) who sent him to Grove City to conduct “surveys.”

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the 36-year-old victim received an email about a paid position conducting surveys at various local stores.

The victim responded to the email and was then told to start by conducting a survey at the Nike store at the Grove City Prime Outlets. He was instructed to purchase something and text photos of the store and information about his shopping experience to a given phone number.

After the victim completed the first “survey,” he was instructed to conduct another one at the Grove City Walmart. The scammers told the man to purchase $400 worth of iTunes gift cards. The scammer(s) then instructed him to scratch off the area concealing the pin numbers, take photos of the cards with the exposed numbers, and text the photos to the given phone number.

According to investigators, the scammers used all but one of the gift cards.
