Craig S. Faller Named Grand Marshal of Fryburg Mayfest Parade

FRYBURG, Pa. (EYT) – Navy Admiral Craig S. Faller, a Fryburg native, will be Grand Marshal of the 2018 “Color Me America” Mayfest parade on Saturday, May 26.

Rear Admiral Craig S. Faller was appointed as senior military assistant to the secretary of defense in January of 2017.

Faller, son of Henry and Audrey Faller, of Fryburg, is a 1979 graduate of the Venango Christian High School. Faller went on to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering. In 1990, he earned a Master’s Degree in Security Affairs (Strategic Planning) from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Faller has served aboard numerous ships, including commanding officer of USS Stethem (DDG 63) where he was deployed in April 2000 to the Arabian Gulf and participated in maritime interception operation in support of United Nations sanctions against Iraq. He also assisted victims of the Tsunami off Indonesia during his tour as commanding officer of USS Shiloh (CG 67) from December 2004 to March 2006. Additionally, as commander of Carrier Strike Group 3, he deployed to the Middle East supporting Operations New Dawn (Iraq) and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).

He has also served as a leader of the Navy Recruiting Command (NRC), earning the Legion Merit for his tour as the senior recruiter in America’s Navy. Faller is credited with providing visionary leadership; guiding a recruiting force of more than 7,000. Under his direction, Navy Recruiters were able to access nearly 58,800 young men and woman.

Faller’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (four awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal. He has also received various unit, service, and campaign awards.

About the Fryburg Mayfest Celebration

The 26th Annual Fryburg Mayfest celebration will be held on Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26.

This year’s festival will include many of last year’s favorite attractions, such as live music, a 5k Fun Run/Walk, corn hole tournament, tractor show, car cruise, pet social, games, food, a fireworks display, and much more.

The “Color Me America” parade will start at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Beginning on Old Fryburg Road and proceeding though Fryburg and down Route 208 to Marble/Strobleton Road, the parade will conclude at Guth’s Garage in Marble.
