SHARON, Pa. (EYT) — The Cranberry Berries are sending one wrestler — Josh Hancock — to the PIAA Championships in Hershey.

Hancock worked his way back from a quarterfinal loss Friday at 145 pounds to reach the third-place match against Saegertown’s Jude Mattocks where he dropped a 12-6 decision to place fourth.

But before that, Hancock won two straight matches to clinch a spot at states.

First, he beat Slippery Rock’s Mike Antal, 5-2, then shut out Kane’s Alec English, 8-0, to reach the place match.

The Berries other wrestlers, 138-pounder C.J. Shreffler and 285-pounder Timmy McCauley bowed out in the wrestlebacks on Saturday.

Shreffler was pinned by Greenville’s Mason Karpinski and McCauley was pinned by Mercer’s Bobby Gregory.

The Franklin Knights had one wrestler at regionals — Hunter Exley — and he was eliminated from contention with a forfeit loss in the wrestlebacks against Oswayo Valley’s Grant West.

The PIAA Class AA Championships begin Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
