Cranberry’s Lander Repeats as Boys D9 1,600-meter Champion

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – Cranberry’s Sam Lander repeated as the District 9 Class 2A boys’ 1,600-meter champion winning the event in a time of 4:35.91 at Friday’s District 9 track and field championship at Brookville High School.

Lander outpaced Elk County Catholic’s Matthew Dippold (4:38.96) and Clarion’s Adam Bettwy to retain his title. His teammate, Harrison Keenan, finished sixth (4:51.19).

He talked about winning the championship for a second straight year.

Keenan also scored in the 3,200-meter run for the Berries finishing fourth in a time of 10:28.73, while Keystone’s Broc Schoeppner was sixth in a time of 10:47.78.

Schoeppner also helped Keystone’s 4×800-meter relay team, which also included Brennan LaVan, Brody Coleman and Max Thompson, take fourth in a time of 8:49.84. Moniteau’s team of Brandon Anderson, Steven Fawcett, Ryley Coleman and Emmanuel McLean was third in the 4×800 in a time of 8:36.84.

That was part of a strong overall meet for the Warriors, who took fourth with a score of 51 points.

Jacob Patton qualified for the PIAA meet in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. He qualified in the 110 by running a qualifying time of 15.49, which was good for fifth, while his second-place finish in the 300 hurdles (40.99) gets him to Shippensburg as well.

Moniteau’s 4×400-meter relay team of Dalton Anderson, Fawcett, Wyatt McDeavitt and McLean is also headed to states after finishing second in a time of 3:32.94.

Fawcett added a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:04.65) with Dalton Anderson taking fifth in the high jump (6-0).

In the shot put, Moniteau had three of the top six finishers with Roman Davidson taking third (46-9 3/4), Dillin Anderson fifth (46-7 3/4) and Ryan Heller sixth (46-5 1/4). Dalton Anderson was also third in the javelin (165-3) and James Parenti was fifth in the discus (129-1).

Jarrett Kahle of East Forest competing for North Clarion was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43-0 3/4. Kahle was also joined on the 4×100-meter relay team for North Clarion by East Forest classmate Seth Berlin as well as North Clarion runners Colton Zacherl and Chase Schmader to finish sixth in a time of 45.96.

Cranberry finished in 12th place with 15 points.
