Crash That Left Two Mercer County Men Dead Remains Under Investigation

| August 3, 2018

HIGHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police in Clarion continue to investigate a deadly crash that occurred in Highland Township in April.

According to representatives of the Clarion-based State Police and Clarion County District Attorney Mark T. Aaron’s office, the crash that occurred on Miola Road around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, remains under investigation.

Police say the accident occurred on Miola Road near the intersection with Bigley Road when a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 left the roadway and traveled over a culvert before colliding with a tree.

Three medical helicopters – two LifeFlight units and one STAT MedEvac chopper – were dispatched shortly after the crash.

One of the passengers – 29-year-old Mark Marcucci of West Middlesex – was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:32 a.m. by Clarion County Coroner Randall Stom. Stom said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The driver and two other passengers were flown to Pittsburgh area hospitals for treatment.

One passenger, 23-year-old Kevin Yarabinec of Sharpsville, Pa., succumbed to his injuries on April 22 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where he was pronounced dead.

The identities of the driver and the other passenger have not been released.

Corporal Krick of the Clarion-based State Police said that a Troop C accident reconstructionist is still piecing together exactly what happened that night.

“There’s a lot of investigation and a lot of math that goes into a reconstruction,” Krick said.

Krick said the troop’s reconstructionists tend to have a lot of cases to handle – ranging from crashes to crime scenes – and giving each scene its due attention can take time.

At this time, there have not been any charges filed in connection with the crash.

“The DA won’t be able to make any decisions until the reconstruction is finished,” Krick explained.

Calls to District Attorney Mark Aaron for comment were not immediately returned.
