Crawford County Shooting Case Referred to PA Attorney General

CRAWFORD CO., Pa. (EYT) – Authorities continue to investigate a domestic incident that turned deadly on Sunday evening in Conneaut Township, Crawford County.

According to Meadville-based State Police, 29-year-old Corey Shipton, of Meadville, died of a gunshot wound and 35-year-old Jessie Bacon, of Linesville, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound after an incident that happened between 7:00 p.m. and 7:44 p.m. at a residence on Wheeler Road in Conneaut Township, Crawford County.

Police were on their way to the residence where Shipton and Bacon were involved in the domestic incident when 27-year-old Dustin Coffey, of Fredonia, arrived at the home to help Bacon.

Police say during the altercation between the three, Shipton and Bacon both suffered gunshot wounds, and Shipton died at the scene.

Bacon had a bullet lodged in her jaw. She was taken by medical helicopter to UPMC Hamot in Erie and later transported to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. She is listed in stable condition.

According to state police, two weapons were found at the scene – Coffey’s pistol and Shipton’s rifle.

Several interviews were conducted, with more interviews planned.

The exact circumstances and timeline of events remain under active investigation and are being compared to physical evidence at the scene, police say.

Shipton’s autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

According to a published article on goerie.com, police said Coffey fired the round that struck Shipton. He was interviewed by state police and released.

It is unknown at this time whether the rifle had been fired during the incident.

No charges have been filed, yet; however, the case has been referred to the state Office of the Attorney General.
