Daniel Joseph Lander

Daniel Joseph Lander, 81, Of Oil City, died at 1:45 am, Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Sugar Creek Station, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born January 4, 1933 in Lucinda, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Loretta Schupp Lander.

Dan served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany.

He was a partner at Lander and Dloniak Barbershop, retiring after 40 years of cutting hair in Oil City.

Dan was a member of St. Stephen Church, where he served as an usher for many years.

He enjoyed hunting, walking and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

On July 9, 1955 he was married at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda to the former Mabel I. Vogelbacher, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Lander of Erie, Christopher Lander of Jacksonville FL, Douglas Lander of Oil City, and Joseph Lander and wife Kelly of Rockland; one daughter, Teresa Felmlee and husband Robert of Franklin; and nine grandchildren, Kyle Lander, Kaitlyn Lander, Kara Lander, Morganne Lander, Ryan Lander, Ethan Lander, Robert Felmlee, Daniel Lander and Samuel Lander.

Also surviving are three brothers, Ralph Lander of Fryburg, Russell Lander of Clarion and Arthur Lander of Seneca; one sister, Bernice Beirnik of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight sisters, Susan Marie Dayton, Grace Zacherl, Bernadine Goughler, Helen Lander, Florence Schmader, Catherine Whitehill, Beatrice Biltz and Ann Kinch; and twin brothers, Frederick and Paul Lander who died at birth.

There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11 am with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Stephen Second Century Fund, Sugar Creek Station or the Venango County Humane Society.
