David D. Switzer, 66, of Rockland Township, Kennerdell, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday afternoon, September 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Franklin on April 17, 1951, to the late Raymond and Thelma “Kay” (Brothers) Switzer.

David graduated from Cranberry High School with the class of 1969.

He was a member of the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department and the Rockland Sportsman’s Club.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting. He’s always loved the outdoors and enjoyed mowing the lawn. Dave’s most cherished past-time was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his many close friends.

Dave worked more than twenty years as a welder for Witherup Fabrication and Erection in Kennerdell, until his retirement in May.

He was married in Lamartine on July 21, 1972, to the former Charlotte Y. Whitman, and she survives, along with their two children, Lydia Burris and her husband Dave of Rockland, and Jason Switzer and his wife Holly of Franklin; five grandchildren, Shavonne Burris of Seneca, Daryan Switzer of Rockland, and Colton, Morgan, and Dacoda Switzer, all of Franklin; and one great-granddaughter, Elvira Switzer.

Dave is also survived by a sister, Sandy Custer and her husband Russ of Emlenton; a brother, Dennis “Bill” Switzer of Kennerdell; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and all of the many others over the years that have considered him “Dad.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Switzer; and two sisters-in-law, Karen Switzer and Shawnee Shuffstall.

Friends and family will be received Monday (Sept. 25th) from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and on Tuesday (Sept. 26th) from 6-7 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dave Bartholomew, a family friend, officiating.
