David G. (Boomer) McEnteer, 66, of Titusville, died peacefully in the presence of several loving friends at 4:42 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Golden Living Center of Titusville, following a short illness.

Mr. McEnteer was born June 18, 1947 in Lakewood, Ohio a son of the late Ben McEnteer and Mary Griffith McEnteer.

He lived with his family in Rocky River, OH until 1959 when they moved to Titusville. Dave attended schools in Titusville, Massachusetts and Ohio before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh. For 13 summers Dave was known as “Moose” having worked at Pioneer Ranch, a summer camp owned by the Van Horn family of Titusville. There he communicated his love of sports and outdoor activities to many children, as he would later do for Pitt students.

Boomer served for 35 years as director of intramural athletics at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. To acknowledge the many friends he made at Pitt and the many lives he touched there, the students voted to name their cafeteria Boomer’s in his honor.

In 1980 he married Katherine Newell. He and Kathy worked at Pitt and lived in Titusville until her death in 1997.

He was a member of BPOE Lodge 264, VFW Post 5958, Moose Lodge 84, PNA Group 2031 and
Sons of the American Legion Post 368.

Boomer was past commander and served for many years as Legion Home Association finance officer. He volunteered for 20 years at the American Legion and served as Santa for the Children’s Christmas parties and with Randy Miller host for the Legion’s scholarship luncheons. Cleo J. Ross American Legion Post 368 will forever be indebted to David “Boomer” McEnteer.

An avid lifelong sports fan, he loved golf; playing poker especially Texas
Hold’em; taking trips to the casinos; and an avid Cleveland Browns fan. His booming voice disguised his kind and gentle disposition, which endeared him to those who knew him best. Boomer will be always remembered for his generosity and loyalty to UPT. Friends have a special reason to thank Boomer for his contribution to the English language by adding to their personal vocabulary with the word “ERNT”.

He is survived by a brother and his wife Mr. and Mrs. James McEnteer and their son and daughter of Ecuador; and many friends.

No calling hours will be observed. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31, at the American Legion Post 368, 113 E. Central Ave., Titusville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 368 scholarship fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home, Inc.,
Titusville.

Condolences for the family can be sent to hennesfuneralhome.com.
