001 (3)David L. Walter Jr., 85, of 46 Ridgview Dr., Rimersburg, died Saturday April 25, 2015 at his residence.

Born May 6, 1929 in Kissinger Mills, he was the son of David L. Sr. and Velma A. Ramsey Walter. Junior was educated in Rimersburg and then proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict with the 181st Signal Corp of the US Army from 1951 to 1953.

He was married in Erie, PA, April 26, 1953 to Roseann E. Duncan, and she survives in Rimersburg. Junior was a self-employed carpenter most of his life and also worked 18 years at the former Pullman-Standard Co. in Butler before it closed. A Protestant, Junior was a lifetime member of both the VFW Post 7132 and the Shearer-Shick Post 454 American Legion Post both of Rimersburg, with which he acted as a chaplain and presenter during many military funerals over the years. He was a member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands; Dianne and Robert Pause of Tallahasee,Florida and Wendy and David Hutchings of Eagle River, Alaska, 5 grandchildren; Russell Pause and wife Carole, Brandi Barnhouse and husband Scott, Lindsay Pause, Kirby Hutchings and Eryn Hutchings, and 5 great-grandchildren; Aaron, Kenneth, and Greg Barnhouse, and Robert and Samantha Pause.

The family of Junior Walter will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday April 29, 2015 at the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg, 583 Main St. Rimersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday April 30, 2015 from the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Deeter, pastor of the Wildcat Allegheny Methodist Church near Rimersburg, officiating. Internment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery in Armstrong County. Full military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial squads of the Rimersburg VFW and American Legion.

The family suggests memorials be made to: The Rimersburg Veterans Park and Museum, the Clarion Cancer Center, or the Eccles-Lesher Mem. Library in Rimersburg. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.varnerfuneralhome.com.
