David L. Winger

David L. Winger, 77, of State Route 417 Dempseytown, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the VA in Butler after an extended illness.

Born January 10, 1942, in Oil City, PA, he was the son of the late William A. Winger and Helen E. Rosenberg Winger.

Dave was a 1959 graduate of Cranberry High School. He entered the military on February 9, 1960, and served four years in the United States Navy.

He was married on July 31, 1977, in the Fertigs United Methodist Church to the former Margaret J. “Peg” Rhoades and she survives.

Dave had worked for over 30 years at Pennsy Auto Parts, where he and his wife were owners for several years. He then worked for the Prudential Insurance company for over ten years.

Dave enjoyed golfing, and could always be found playing his guitar at a local nursing home where he volunteered his time.

Dave had been a member of several local bands including Windsors, Impacts, Dave Plus One, and the Windy River Band.

He was of the Methodist Faith.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, David Winger and his wife Laurie of Dempseytown; a granddaughter, Hope Winger; two step-grandchildren, Ellie and Shirley; and two step-great-grandchildren, Blake and Jordynn.

Dave and his wife Peg also raised three nephews who survive with their families: Orvis Kinch and his wife Christine and their children Paisley and Marcus, Mike Toy and his sons Matt and Jacob, and George Kinch and his wife Marie and their children Dale and Kyle. Dave is also survived by a brother, Thomas Winger of Oregon, and a sister, Marilyn Miller and her husband Andy of Rockland. He is also survived by special cousins Mike Dunkerley, Blaine and Donna Marshall, and Chuck and Mary Shirey, as well as his godson, Ryan Rhoades.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Carol Hall.

Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home and again from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Oakland United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Webber, Presiding. Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the Oakland United Methodist Church.
