ThumbnailDavid Leroy Keener, 62, of Franklin, passed away unexpectedly at 5:37 a.m. at his residence on Friday, January 23rd.

Born April 8, 1952 in Franklin, David was the son of the late James Charles and Dora Helen Morrison Keener. He was a US Army Veteran having served in Korea during the Vietnam War Era. While in the Army, David was the recipient of a National Defense Service Medal. After retiring in 1997 from Polk Center where he had worked as a RSA for 25 years, David worked for Allied-Burton Security for 12 years as a Security Guard at the PNC Call Center.

David enjoyed hunting , fishing and traveling and spending time with his dog, “Jackie”. He was an avid Cleveland Brown’s football fan. David made his home with his daughter, Robin and her husband, Craig. He was very close to his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

David is survived by his son, Jason Keener and his wife, Michele, of Las Vegas, NV; and his daughters, Melissa Krizon and her husband, Jesse, of Polk, Robin Morton and her husband, Craig, of Franklin, and Ellisha Keener of Pittsburgh and her boyfriend, Greg Apgar.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kai, Drew and Dane Keener, of Las Vegas, NV, Tessa Williams of Franklin, Trevor and Trenton Williams of Polk, Timothy Krizon of Polk, Tanner Phillips of Cranberry, Kailey and Brooklyn Phillips of Franklin, and Isaiah and Emmy Keener of Pittsburgh.

He is additionally survived by his brothers, Donald Keener of Ridgeway, Jimmie Keener and his wife, Sandy, of Franklin, and Malvin Keener and his wife, Diane, of Chapmanville; his sister, Marilyn Sherman and her husband, Dan, of Wattsburg; many nieces and nephews; and his close friend, Jim Lynn and his wife, Hazel, of Utica.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen R. Keener; his brothers, Clarence “Ike” Keener, Marvin Keener, Richard Keener and James Keener; and his nephew, Edward Keener.

Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, January 26th from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home at 6 p.m. following visitation with Rev. Joseph P. Martin, Jr., pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in Morrison Cemetery.
