Delbrugge Named Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Dr. Laura Delbrugge will serve as Clarion University’s next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences starting July 1.

“We are excited to have Dr. Laura Delbrugge join us as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,” said Dr. Pam Gent, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “Laura was selected as a result of a robust year-long national search. She is forward thinking and a solutions-based leader who understands the realities of higher education.”

Delbrugge joins Clarion from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she served as a tenured professor of Spanish and as the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages. She has worked there since 1998, but also worked as an assistant professor at Clarion from 1997-1998.

“I’m very excited to be coming back to Clarion and getting to know everyone at the university and especially everyone in the College of Arts and Sciences,”Delbrugge said. “I would like to thank all of my friends and colleagues at IUP who supported me throughout my 20 years there.”

In addition to her teaching and department chair commitments, Delbrugge marked her time at IUP by serving on committees and in roles that aided in the betterment of the university.

She was a participant in the Emerging Leaders Program through the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and worked on IUP’s Reaffirmation of Accreditation from 2013-2016.

“She has been a highly-respected faculty member at IUP and has demonstrated expertise in program development and assessment. She brings with her a wealth of administrative experience as a department chair, provost’s associate for academic programming and planning at IUP, dean’s associate in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at IUP,” Gent said. “We value her knowledge of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education and its ongoing system redesign.”

In addition to her service to IUP, Delbrugge continued her scholarly pursuits by contributing to books and publications and serving as a reviewer for fellow scholarly works. She also made presentations concerning her areas of expertise.

She is a member of the North American Catalan Society and the American Academy of Research Historians of Medieval Spain.

The Search Committee for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences included, Dr. Jeff Allen and Dr. Tony Vega (Co-chairs), Dr. Carey Childers, Kat Horner, Tina Horner, Bob Levy, Jim McGee, Dr. Dave Hartley, Dr. Uraina Pack, Dr. Jessica Thomas and Cathi Wenner.
