Distracted Driver Causes Chain-Reaction Crash on Route 257

police-2CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A distracted driver caused a chain reaction crash on Route 257 in Cranberry Township Wednesday afternoon.

According to Franklin-based State Police, around 4:53 p.m., Michelle Knight, 48, of Seneca, was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion north. Her five-year-old son distracted her as she approached a traffic signal at Fairfield Drive.

Knight hit the rear end of a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant driven by 18-year-old Duncan Chapel, of Oil City. The Galant then hit the rear of a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by 36-year-old Barry McGinnis, of Oil City. The Dodge hit the rear of another vehicle. It did not receive any damage and left the scene before State Police arrived, police say.

Knight was cited for careless driving.

All drivers and the five-year-old passenger were using seat belts, and there were no reported injuries.

Assisting at the scene were Seneca Fire Department, Community Ambulance, and Minich’s Towing.
