District 10 Releases Basketball Playoff Brackets

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) –Six area teams will be competing in the District 10 boys’ and girls’ basketball playoffs with the district releasing the brackets Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, Rocky Grove will be in the Class 2A bracket, Titusville in the Class 3A bracket and Oil City and Franklin in the Class 4A bracket.

In girls’ action, Rocky Grove is in the Class 2A field with Oil City joining the Class 4A field.

Opening-round action for each of those teams is as follows:

BOYS’ CLASS 2A

Rocky Grove is the second-place team out of Region 2 and will be a bye into the quarterfinals where it will meet the winner of the Cochranton/Mercer game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Meadville High School. The other quarterfinal game on Rocky Grove’s side of the bracket features Cambridge Springs playing the winner of the Lakeview/Union City game at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at Fairview High School. Those first-round contests are being played Friday, Feb. 16.

Four teams out of Class 2A qualify for the PIAA playoffs.

BOYS’ CLASS 3A

Titusville is the fifth-place team out of Region 4. The Rockets have a bye into the quarterfinals where they will meet Fairview, the first-place team out of Region 4. That game will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at the Prep-Villa Event Center in Erie with the winner facing the winner of the Sharpsville vs. Seneca game which is also taking place Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at Farrell High School.

Three District 10 teams qualify for the PIAA playoffs.

BOYS’ CLASS 4A

Franklin, the fourth-place team out of Region 5, will host Fort LeBoeuf, the fifth-place team out of Region 6, in an opening-round game at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 with the winner taking on General McLane, the top team out of Region 6 Thursday, Feb. 22, at a time and place to be determined.

Oil City, the fifth-place team out of Region 5, will take on Corry, the fourth-place team out of Region 6, in the opening round at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Corry. The winner of that game faces Sharon, the top team out of Region 5, Feb. 22 at a time and place to be determined.

GIRLS’ CLASS 2A

Rocky Grove, the third-place team out of District 1, will take on Maplewood, the second-place team out of District 3, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Meadville High School in the quarterfinals. The winner of that game will face the winner of the West Middlesex vs. either Cochranton or Iroquois game in the semifinals Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Three District 10 teams advance to the PIAA playoffs.

GIRLS’ CLASS 4A

Oil City is one of three teams in the Class 4A bracket and the Oilers will take on Mercyhurst Prep in the semifinals Wednesday, Feb. 28, at a time and place to be determined. The winner will face Villa Maria in the title game Saturday, March 3, at a time and place to be determined.

Only the District 10 champion advances to the PIAA playoffs.
