A look at Wednesday night’s District 9 Class A girls playoff games.

CLARION 58, JOHNSONBURG 48

BROCKWAY – Behind 20 points from Ashley Hummell and 18 from Kyla Miles, Clarion advanced to the District 9 Class A girls’ basketball title game for the second year in a row with a 58-48 win over Johnsonburg Wednesday night in Brockway.

The top-seeded Lady Cats (22-3), who lost to Keystone in last year’s title game, will try for their first championship since 1992 when they take on Port Allegany Saturday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym.

Johnsonburg, the fifth seed, got 13 from Chelsea Benson and 11 from Rhianon Fowler. The Ramettes (17-7) will take on Keystone in the consolation game with details on that contest to be announced.

PORT ALLEGANY 55, KEYSTONE 48

KANE – The loss of superstar sisters Morgan and Madison Johnson proved to be too much for Keystone to overcome, as the defending champion and third-seeded Lady Panthers dropped a 55-48 decision to second-seeded Port Allegany in the District 9 Class A girls’ basketball semifinals Wednesday night in Kane.

Becca Lathrop had a career-high 26 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Lady Gators (21-3) to their first District 9 title game since winning the Class AA championship in 1997.

Keystone (19-6) got 15 points from Courtney Greathouse and 10 points and seven rebounds from Malinda Brozenick but couldn’t overcome losing 46 percent of its regular-season scoring from the Johnson sisters, who both have knee injuries.

Port Allegany will take on Clarion in the District 9 title game Saturday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym, while Keystone will face Johnsonburg in the consolation game with details on that contest still to be released.
