Don C. Frederick

Don C. Frederick, 91, of Tylersburg, died Tuesday evening, May 28, 2013 at the Golden Living Nursing Center in Shippenville, PA, after an extended illness. Born April, 22 1922 in Shippenville PA he was the son of the late William C. Frederick and Hannah Jane Barnett Frederick.

Don was a member of the Good Shepherd U. M. Church; he also belonged to Ducks Unlimited, VFW, and the Sawmill Coffee Club.

Don attended school in Shippenville and then attended welding school in Philadelphia. After welding school he welded pipeline in Pennsylvania and New York for six years. He sold Banker’s Life Insurance, hauled pit posts to Butler for the coal mines, and worked for Pennzoil and a grocery store in Shippenville. Don and his brother-in-law, Al Niederriter, did mechanic work in Venus for a short time. Then he worked with his brother, Clyde, and his brother-in-law, Dean Lewis, in the oil and gas business. He went to work with his Dad in the drilling business in Conneaut, Ohio, and when his Dad retired, Don took over the rig. He formed Frederick Drilling Co. that later became Frederick Drilling Company & Sons, Inc. The business continues today with his sons in charge. He also created Appalachian Oil & Gas with his sons.

Don is survived by six children: Clyde (Gene) Frederick and his wife, Ruth of Lickingville; Don Frederick Jr. and his wife, Carol of Tionesta; Richard Frederick and his wife, Cathy of Tylersburg; Donna Rathfon and her husband, Stan of Tylersburg; Darlene Flick and her husband, Ken of Leeper; and Shirley Wolbert and her husband, Gene of Fairchance, PA. Don is also survived by two sisters: Althea Lewis and her husband, Dean of Cranberry and Norma Westover and her husband, Don of Rocky Grove. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Besides his parents Don was preceded in death by his wife Louise M. Niederriter whom he married on Feb. 14, 1942. Don was also preceded by one son, William Frederick, one brother, Clyde Frederick, one sister, Elna Whitling and 2 great great grandchildren Reese Anna McFarland and Cory Edward Summersgill.

Friends and family may call on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 3 – 8 at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper, PA. Calling hours on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 10:00AM-11:00AM will be held at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Tionesta; immediately following will be the funeral service with the Reverend Seth McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery in Crown.
