Donald J. Sweetapple, 60, of Franklin, died at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012 shortly after his arrival to UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born February 26, 1952 in Grove City, he was the son of the late Wilbur Lester and Doris Jane Carnahan Sweetapple.

He was a 1970 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg. He also attended school in Pittsburgh and studied computer programming.

Don was a member of the Franklin V.F.W.

He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and tinkering around the garage, being creative and making many different things. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, boating on the river, and shooting his guns.

Mr. Sweetapple worked in the maintenance department for many years at Miller Equipment in Franklin, and most recently was employed by W.S. Packaging of Franklin.

He was married in Emlenton on October 26, 1990 to the former Joy A. (Mook) Dunlap, who survives.

Also surviving are two step-daughters, Brandy Dunlap of Franklin and Christina Hibbard and husband Andy of Van; two step-grandchildren, Donald Lawrence and Brice Hibbard; a brother, Jim Sweetapple and wife Cindy of Kennerdell; a sister, Kathy Francis and husband Glenn of Kennerdell; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Montgomery of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Keenan Lawrence; and a sister, Connie Meyer.

Friends will be received Sunday (April 29th) from 1-4 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday (April 30th) at 11 a.m. with his nephew, the Rev. Jessey Mook, pastor of Faith Memorial Church in Lancaster, Ohio, officiating.
