Doris E. Wrenshall

Doris Ellen Wrenshall, 89, of Cooperstown, PA, died February 22, 2018, in Kettering, OH.

Born April 3, 1928, in Edgewood, Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of Dr. Reuben and Signe (Olson) Peterson.

She graduated from Westminster College in 1950 with a Bachelors of Music Education Degree and did post-graduate work at Penn State University and Carnegie-Mellon University. She was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Mrs. Wrenshall married Robert K. Wrenshall on June 18, 1955, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1994. He was an administrator in the Valley Grove School District.

She was a member of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church where she was an organist and choir director for over 40 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and served on the official board of the church.

Doris retired in 1984 after teaching music for 25 years, 18 of which were in Valley Grove School District.

Mrs. Wrenshall was an avid reader and donated many books to the library where she was a volunteer. She also volunteered at UPMC Northwest in the Ambulatory Surgery Department. She was formerly a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Community Concert Association and was a Franklin appointments chairman. She was also a member of the Cooperstown Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary. She also served on the election board as Judge of Elections.

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Lucile Wrenshall Stevens and her husband, Dr. R. Brian, of Dayton, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Robert Christopher Stevens, Danielle Elizabeth Stevens, and Christian Alexander Stevens. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Doris Peterson and Mary Ann Wrenshall; and various nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street Franklin.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. June 9, 2018, at the Cooperstown United Methodist Church with Reverend Joseph Martin, Jr., Retired Reverend, officiating.

Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
