Member_144094Doris Z. Sloan, 89, of Kittanning Pike, Parker, Allegheny Twp., Butler Co., went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, March 1, 2015 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca following an extended illness.

Doris was born in Wilkinsburg on July 14, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Alice Kline Zurcher.

Mrs. Sloan enjoyed knitting, reading, and watching old movies. She was a 1943 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School. In her earlier years she had been employed at Cunchula’s Variety Shop in Mariasville and Sloan’s Market and Ray’s Hot Dog Shop, both in Emlenton. She retired following 20 years of service as a postal clerk at the Emlenton Post Office. She had been a member of the Emlenton United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star in Emlenton.

She was married to Durland E. “Pat” Sloan on May 21, 1947. Mr. Sloan preceded her in death in 1992.

Surviving are three sons, Gregory A. Sloan and his wife, Judy, of Parker, Gary R. Sloan and his wife, Sharon, of Dyer, Indiana, and Dennis P. Sloan of Emlenton; eight grandchildren, Robert K. Sloan and his wife, Dawn, of East Brady, Gary R. Sloan II of Schererville, Indiana, Christine M. Sloan of Merrilville, Indiana, Patrick E. Sloan of Altamonte Springs, FL, Sean A. Sloan and Jensen R. Sloan, both of Knox, Gary D. Page Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Pasadena, MD, and Janeen M. Ferguson of Greentree; ten great grandchildren, Brady and Brock Ferguson, Alexis and Caden Nidecker, Levi Page, Dakota Kusner, Johnathan Snyder, Rylee Snyder, Dawson Sloan and Briana Sloan; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Zurcher of Florida, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Brian E. Sloan and three brothers, Robert, Paul, and Harry Zurcher.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 Wednesday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kent O’Neil, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Eau Claire Cemetery.
