Dorothy M. Whitten, 84, of Victory Heights, Franklin, passed away at her home on Sunday morning, August 13, 2017.

She was born in Heilwood, Indiana County, on July 1, 1933; she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ratey) DeArmitt.

She graduated from Salem High School, Clarion County. In 1978, she completed a course on floral arranging from the Vo-Tech.

Mrs. Whitten was of the catholic faith.

Dorothy enjoyed camping, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and the companionship of her dog, “Buddy.”

She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was married in Franklin on January 23, 1954 to Ralph E. Whitten, and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2007.

Surviving are four sons: Melvin Whitten and his wife Karen of Rocky Grove, Dennis Whitten of Grove City, Fred D. Whitten of Franklin, and Douglas Whitten of Cranberry; two grandchildren, Gregory Whitten and his wife Lisa of Franklin, and Melissa Whitten of Pittsburgh; and two great-grandchildren, Athena and Alex Whitten.

Also surviving are two sisters, Elcy Carney of Butler and Patty Huffman of New York; and a sister-in-law, Doris VanWormer of Cranberry.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fred DeArmitt; and a sister-in-law, Donna Greenlee and her husband Peter.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday (Aug. 15th) at 1:30 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, 6615 Rte. 322 in Cranberry.

Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
