CORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say a one-car accident occurred early yesterday morning on State Route 8, at its intersection with Gibson Hill Road, in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

According to police, this crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. as a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C300 — driven by 38-year-old David L. Murray, of Lackawanna, New York — was traveling north on State Route 8. At the time of the crash, the roadway surface had ice patches, and Murray was traveling too fast for the road condition.

Police say Murray failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, traveled across the southbound lane of Route 8, and drove onto the snow-covered shoulder on the west side of the road. The vehicle continued to travel in a northern direction across Gibson Hill Road, and the car’s front bumper had an initial impact with a snow pile located at the northwest corner of Gibson Hill Road and State Route 8 intersection.

The car continued to travel north, and its front bumper had a second impact with a tree located west of Route 8 and north of Gibson Hill Road. The car came to a final rest at this point.

Murray and a passenger — 39-year-old Angie M. Murray, of Lackawanna, New York — were using seat belt and were not injured.

Murray was charged with a traffic violation.

Police indicate the crash involves DUI.
