FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin area man is facing a slew of charges following a police chase in Franklin on Tuesday morning.

Police say the incident occurred around 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday. During a routine patrol, officers observed a dark colored SUV traveling in the wrong direction in the 1300 block of Elk Street.

Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, police say it fled at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. Police say the pursuit continued from 14th Street to Myrtle Street then to 12th Street.

According to police, the vehicle stopped on 12th Street near Liberty Street and both the operator and the passenger fled on foot in different directions. A foot pursuit was initiated by officers and the operator was apprehended near the Eagles Club a short time later.

Police identified the operator of the vehicle as 21-year-old Sean M. Reed of the Franklin area.

The male passenger was not located.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from a Rocky Grove residence without knowledge of the owner.

Reed was taken into custody and arraigned on felony charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Resisting Arrest, Theft From a Motor Vehicle, DUI, and numerous traffic violations.

Bail was set at $60,000. Reed was placed in the Venanoo County Jail after failing to post bail.

“Due to this incident and other unlawful vehicle entry cases, we would like to remind residents to make sure their vehicles are locked when not in use,” said Franklin Police Officer Brad Barnhill.
