RICHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a man was rushed to the hospital following a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Richland Township on Wednesday.

According to police, around 11:38 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 61-year-old Edwin B. Burkett, of Coolspring, Pa., was operating a 2009 Ford F250, traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near the 48-mile marker in Richland Township.

Police say Burkett was traveling in the left lane when his vehicle struck an icy patch on the roadway which caused the vehicle to travel across the right lane and strike the guide rail on the north side of the roadway.

After the initial impact, the vehicle traveled back across both lanes and into the median where it struck a tree and then rolled over into a ditch. It came to a final rest on its roof facing east.

He suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Grove City Hospital by Emlenton Area Ambulance Service.

Burkett was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

He was charged with a traffic violation.

Emlenton Fire Department, PennDOT, and Hovis Towing assisted at the scene.
