Edward M. Bowen

Edward M. Bowen, 88, a resident of 3717 Club Circle, Lakeshore, FL and a former longtime Franklin resident, died peacefully at 3:15 PM Friday, January 18, 2019 in his home, with his wife by his side; following a brief bout with lung cancer.

He was born May 26, 1930 in Sandy Lake, a beloved son of the late Leslie and Loretta Chappell Bowen.

Ed was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School.

He had worked for more than 40 years with Penelec, retiring as a dispatcher in October of 1991.

He was a faithful member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin, and while living in Florida, was an active member of Holy Spirit Church in Lake Wales. He was a longtime member of The Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of The Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and a lifetime member of Franklin Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge #110 and Franklin Loyal Order of Moose.

He was married January 3, 1948 in St. Patrick Church to the former Jane A. McGinty, who preceded him in death on September 11, 2004. He then married the former Margaret Sutter Fitzgerald, on November 18, 2006, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Patricia Bowen Johnson and husband, Wayne of Chandler, AZ; Teresa Bowen Rishel and husband, Darrell of Girard, OH; Mary Jane Bowen Hamid and husband, Akhtar of San Ramon, CA; Michael Bowen and wife, Renee of Marietta, GA; Jim Bowen and wife, Joann of Washington, PA and John Bowen and wife, Mary of Erie. Also surviving are his step-children: Gail F. Pendolino of Oil City and Gary E. Fitzgerald of Franklin.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Ryan Rishel and wife, Nancy of Strongville, OH; Jonathan Rishel and wife, Jessica of Warren, OH; P.J. Rishel of Columbus, OH; Meghan Bowen of Aurora, CO; Kelsey Bowen, of Kansas City, MO; John and Rachel Bowen, of Erie; and step-grandchildren: Rainie Fitzgerald and Kirstie Fitzgerald, both of Oil City; in addition to many great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Raymond Bowen and wife, Muriel of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jane, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas P. Bowen on February 10, 1986; a brother, Gerald Bowen and by a sister, Luella Ritchey.

Friends may call Sunday 2-5 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, Monday at 12:30 PM in St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty Street, Franklin with Monsignor John J. Herbein, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
