Incumbent Republican Candidates Facing Off Against Democrat Challengers in Venango County

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – Two of western Pennsylvania’s Republican incumbents are facing opposition from Democrat challengers in today’s election.

Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, whose newly minted 15th District includes all or parts of 14 western Pennsylvania counties stretching from Venango to Centre, is facing Susan Boser, a professor of Sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Rep. Thompson’s campaign has focused on job growth through access to training programs, comprehensive tax reform, and affordable energy, as well as the elimination of wasteful spending and increasing government efficiency. Thompson’s campaign also touched on domestic energy policy, with focuses on the promotion of energy efficiency and home-grown energy resources, as well as promoting investment in energy research.

Boser’s campaign has focused on job creation through high-speed broadband internet access, business opportunities through renewable energy, promotion of small businesses, the development and maintenance of infrastructure, and the creation of agricultural cooperatives and processing facilities to help farmers better market their products in the area.

64th Legislative District

Incumbent Rep. R. Lee James (R) and challenger John Kluck will be vying for the state representative seat for the 64th Legislative District, which covers all of Venango County and Allegheny Township, Bruin, Cherry Valley, Concord Township, Eau Claire, Parker Township, Venango Township, and Washington Township in Butler County

Incumbent Rep. James’ campaign focused on his experience as a local businessman and as a public servant in the district, particularly in relation to his efforts to streamline regulations and eliminate red tape to promote private-sector job creation. His campaign also touched on investment in infrastructure for economic growth and improvement of the state’s education system.

John Kluck

Challenger Jonh Kluck’s campaign focused on sustaining and creating jobs by creating incentives for investment in small businesses, investment in the green energy sector, and increasing minimum wage. His campaign also touched on increasing public school funding, cutting legislative expenses, and reducing opioid use through the funding social service agencies to provide necessary support services to those fighting addiction.
