Ella Mae Schwab, 87, of Fertigs, died at Oakwood Heights, Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

Born August 10, 1930 in Fertigs, she was a daughter of the late M. Burdell and Helen Morrison Blauser.

Mrs. Schwab graduated from Cranberry High School in 1947 and from Indiana State College, Indiana, PA in 1951 with a degree in Home Economics Education. She attended Penn State University for post graduate studies and was a life member of Kappa Omicron Phi, National Home Economics Honor Society.

Ella was active with youth as a 4-H Club member and leader.

She was employed in the dietary department of the Oil City Hospital and taught Home Economics at Cranberry Area High School from 1951 to 1954. She later worked as a substitute teacher for the Cranberry Area School District.

Ella was an active member of the Fertigs United Methodist Church. She served on many committees and as a Sunday School teacher, church librarian, and chairperson of the church council for many years. She was also a local lay leader speaker of the Fertigs UMC.

Mrs. Schwab was a talented seamstress, making clothes for herself and family as well as wedding gowns.

Besides family, home, and church, she enjoyed sewing and reading.

On April 17, 1954, she was married to LeRoy S. Schwab who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, William A. Schwab and his wife Joyce L. of Oil City and Gale L. Schwab and his wife Joyce C. of Seneca, a daughter, Amy L. Thomas and her husband Jay of Newtown, CT, and five grandchildren, Bryan Schwab of Lewisburg, Sara Schwab of Erie, Ben Schwab of Hermitage, Chad Thomas of Buffalo, NY, and Brandon Thomas of Philadelphia.

She is also survived by a sister Elzada J. Slye of Oil City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis E. Blauser.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm, and again on Saturday from 10 to 11 am.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am Saturday with the Rev. Dan Grimes officiating.

Interment will be in Fertigs Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
