Elmer-Mohney-1429608606Elmer R. Mohney, 101, of Oil City, died at 6:20 pm Friday, April 17, 2015, at The Caring Place in Franklin.

Born June 13, 1913 in Ridgway, he was a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Mumford Mohney.

Mr. Mohney worked as a machinist for Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation for over 30 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church.

Mr. Mohney belonged to Fraternal Lodge No. 483 F&AM in Rouseville, Venango Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory, Acacia Grotto, the NRA, the United Steelworkers, and the Fiddle-A-Rounds Square Dance Club of Clarion.

He enjoyed square dancing, traveling and hunting, and was a loving husband and father.

On March 17, 1941 he was married in Philadelphia to the former Mary Shutt, who preceded him in death on August 11, 1996.

Mr. Mohney is survived by his son, Thomas Mohney of Oil City; a brother-in-law, Lee Dinger of Huntertown, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Twila Dinger, Blanche Krug, Pauline Krug and Fern Snyder.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 am Saturday with Elmer’s nephew, the Rev. John Hodge officiating.

Entombment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
