CRAWFORD COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans for emergency repairs to the bridge that carries Route 6/Route 19 over French Creek in Woodcock Township, Crawford County.

An emergency contract should be in place and work is expected to start by late February 2019. Work will include repairs to the bridge portal, two upper sway bracing members, and four vertical truss members, as well as the removal of two non-structural lower sway brace members.

Weather permitting, the work should be complete, and the bridge reopened in April 2019.

The steel truss bridge has been closed since January 16, 2019, when it was hit and damaged by an over-height vehicle.

A temporary detour is posted using Route 198 and Route 86.

When repair work begins, a new detour will be posted using Interstate 79 and Route 198.

The bridge was built in 1937 and is used by approximately 7,000 vehicles daily. It is classified as poor condition.
