Emogene “Chook” Slabe

Emogene “Chook” Slabe, 85, of Clarion, passed away September 1, 2018, at Clairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

She was born August 19, 1933, in Clarion, the daughter of the late Austin A. and Garnett Edmonds Beichner.

She attended Clarion Limestone High School.

Chook was married on October 31, 1965, to Glenn W. Slabe who preceded her in death.

She was employed at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion for 40 years. Chook always enjoyed being the brunt of good-natured jokes at O-I.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion and was a member of the O-I Quarter Century Club.

Chook enjoyed singing and dancing to all types of music, playing the accordion and could also cord on the piano. She loved playing cards and also enjoyed activities at the personal care homes, especially the ones that involved music while keeping everyone upbeat. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Glenn N. Beichner of Clarion; a grandson, Adam Beichner of Pittsburgh and a brother, Delbert Beichner and wife, Ellie of York.

She is preceded in death by her husband, three brothers; Austin C. Beichner, Joseph Gale Beichner and Edwin Beichner and two sisters; Esther Gourley and Maxine Miller and a daughter-in-law, Marsha Beichner.

Chook’s family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with the Rev. Monty Sayers pastor presiding. Interment will follow at the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.
