Esta Ruth VanDyke

Esta Ruth VanDyke, 89, of Wolf Creek Township, Grove City passed on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, PA.

Born September 6, 1928, in Butler County, she was the daughter of the late Norman Burrows and Mary Lucille (Roxberry) Turner. She married Francis Marion VanDyke on January 23, 1957, in a candlelight ceremony at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church; he preceded her in death on August 22, 2002.

Esta Ruth attended Patterson Grade School and graduated from Grove City High School. She took a course at Chicago School of Nursing and did private nursing duty in the Grove City area. She also worked at Grove City Floral Company.

She was a faithful member of Barkeyville United Methodist Church and had belonged to Ladies Aid and Women’s Missionary Society. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, gardening, spending time with her many friends and relatives, and traveling with her husband after retirement on many trips in the United States.

In her youth, she helped with Bible School, taught Sunday school, and sang in the choir. She was an attendant to the Grove City Sesquicentennial Queen in 1948.

She was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, most recently of Sandy Lake Eastern Star #110. Formerly, she was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem #53, Grove City.

Over the years, she was also a member of AARP in Grove City, Stoneboro Golden Agers, Mercer Senior Citizens, Mercer Fun Club, Harrisville Community Club and Scrubgrass Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a brother, Norman Edward Turner and his wife Virginia, Grove City, as well as two brothers-in-law Carl Ebert, Grove City and Delmar Rath, Cochranton. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Virginia Smalley, Myrna Miller, Jan Robinson, Charles Turner, Twila Rolland, Heather Eakin, Heidi Eakin, Norma Richard Eakin, Sandra Ohler, Rita Shillito, Carol Petrichevich, David Ebert, James Surrena and David Surrena. Many great-nieces and great-nephews also survive her.

In addition to his parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Lillie Rath, Norma Lucille Eakin and Emily Irene Ebert, a brother in law, Richard Eakin, a nephew Samuel Turner, a niece Marian Rihel, and a great-nephew Nathan Smalley.

According to her wishes, there will be no public visitation. Friends and Family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Church with Rev. Willard Morse officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
