Evelyn Grace Gilligan

Evelyn Grace Gilligan, 93, of Brookville, died Wednesday, March 7, at her home.

Born July 18, 1924, in Hormtown, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Ruth Rhoades Burkhouse.

On February 4, 1946, she married Gerald “Turb” W. Gilligan in Reynoldsville; he preceded her in death on May 9, 1998.

Mrs. Gilligan worked as a welder in Pittsburgh during WWII, before getting married. She also worked for a time at TA in Brookville and as a caretaker for the elderly. She spent most of her life as a homemaker.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Brookville for many years and was involved in church affairs. She enjoyed quilting and was a part of many quilting clubs. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Mrs. Gilligan is survived by eight children, Charlotte (John) McQuown of Mayport, Richard Gilligan of High Springs, FL, Gerald Gilligan II of Brookville, Samuel (Chris) Gilligan of Brockway, Ruth Gilligan of Brookville, Thomas Gilligan of Summerville, Dennis Gilligan of Brookville, and Diana (Eric) Mahlon of Clearfield; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Gilligan; two grandsons, Richard and Judd; a brother, Tom; and a sister, Dorothy.

Family and friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Peterson Funeral Home LLC, 153 Jefferson Street, Brookville, PA. There will also be a visitation on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with funeral services following at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ben Austin officiating.

Interment will be in Lakelawn Cemetery in Reynoldsville on Monday, March 12, 2018.
