UPDATE: No Injuries Reported in Explosion at Petrolia Plant

PETROLIA, Pa. (EYT) – Crews responded to the scene of an explosion at the Sonneborn petroleum processing plant near Petrolia, Butler County.

Butler County 911 says the call came in around 1:15 p.m. for a report of an explosion at the Fairview Township facility.

The plant, which produces various types of waxes, is located just off Route 268.

Heavy flames and dark clouds of smoke could be seen throughout the area.

Officials say the fire was under control around 2:30 p.m. and most of the departments on scene were released at that time.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Sonneborn Corp. officials decline to comment on the incident.
