family-dollarVENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – In an effort to boost sales, Family Dollar will be adding alcoholic beverages to the shelves of 1,000 stores in the coming months.

In a recent press release, Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, unveiled its plan to add adult beverages to the storefront of over 1,000 stores nationwide to improve their sales performance.

Locally, there are Family Dollar stores in Clintonville, Franklin, and Oil City. The company isn’t saying whether there are plans for any local stores to sell alcohol.

“Like most groceries and convenience stores, our assortment currently includes adult beverages at many of our stores,” Kayleigh Painter, a media relations employee at Dollar Tree, told exploreClarion.

“We are in the process of extending availability to additional stores.”

Painter emphasized, “We are simply providing customers with a convenient option to purchase adult beverage products while shopping for everyday needs at their neighborhood store.”

There has been no indication from Dollar Tree as to how these stores will be selected.

Family Dollar store managers at the two Oil City locations were unable to comment on whether they would be applying for liquor licenses.

Closure of 390 stores in the second quarter of 2019 has also been announced due to low sales growth which has prompted corporate overhaul efforts.

Family Dollar has over 8,000 stores across the United States.
